The original website was designed for desktop only. I reworked the layouts for different screen sizes, restructuring the content rather than simply scaling the desktop design down.

Redesigning an existing non-responsive website and carrying the new direction through to a responsive WordPress site.

The existing DDC website had been designed for desktop, with no responsive version.
I started by looking through the existing pages, content and structure before deciding what needed to change.
DDC wanted the website to take inspiration from vintage Urdu newspapers.
I carried that reference into the redesign through column-based layouts, strong typography and monochrome imagery , while adapting the idea for a responsive website.
The challenge was taking a print reference into a digital space.
Content hierarchy
DDC's work involves a lot of written content. The challenge was to give that information structure and breathing room without losing its depth.
Translating print to screen
The vintage Urdu newspaper reference needed to stay visible, while still working as a contemporary digital experience.
Editorial structure
Columns, type and spacing.
Designing for Urdu
Urdu was an important part of DDC's content, so the layouts also needed to work naturally with right-to-left reading rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Visual language
Monochrome illustrations and a limited palette.
Responsive design
Reworking the layout for smaller screens.
The redesign wasn't simply about making the desktop screens smaller. Each layout was restructured around the available space so the hierarchy and visual character remained intact across screen sizes.
